This is how we came up with the title of our group. We mention the word “Walnut ” because a man’s prostate is the size of a walnut. One small organ can turn a man’s whole life upside down. The word “Tribe” was put in because of the way every man feels alone when he is first diagnosed. Like no one else would understand what he’s going through. However, there are many of us who deal with and live through the effects and treatments of prostate cancer. We know that each man’s journey to cancer is not the same as another’s. But, if enough of us can get together and help each other, give advice, or at least an ear to listen, then maybe we can come together as a “Tribe”. There are many stories about prostate cancer survivors. If we told them at least to each other, maybe we wouldn’t feel as alone. If you want to hear one story, check out the video below:

Recognizing the crucial role of women in supporting men’s health, we have partnered with The Pink Ribbon Place to educate women about prostate cancer, empowering them to advocate for early detection, support men during treatment, and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
Recognizing the essential role women play in men’s health, especially in the face of prostate cancer, we’ve established a dedicated caregiver support group for female partners of those diagnosed with the disease.
Prostate cancer doesn’t just impact individuals—it affects entire families. Often described as a “couple’s disease,” the journey involves both partners every step of the way. Women step into many roles: caregiver, researcher, advocate, and emotional anchor. Their strength and resilience are often the quiet force behind a man’s fight against cancer.
This support group offers a safe, confidential space for women to share their experiences, discuss the unique challenges they face, and find emotional support from others who truly understand. It’s a place for open, judgment-free conversations, mutual empowerment, and healing—together.
The Walnut Tribe is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space that provides social and emotional support, along with educational resources, to all men—especially African American men—and their families. We understand that a prostate cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, frightening, and isolating, particularly for those facing advanced stages of the disease. It may seem like no one truly understands what you’re going through or what you feel you are losing. That’s exactly why The Walnut Tribe exists—to offer connection, understanding, and hope.
The Walnut Tribe's vision is to encourage all men to prioritize routine physical examinations that include Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing. This test will increase their chances of early detection and a more positive outcome following a diagnosis of
Prostate Cancer. Prostate Cancer can develop without symptoms, making proactive screening essential for men. Although African American men face a disproportionately higher risk, this disease does not discriminate and can strike any man, regardless of race, creed, religious or spiritual beliefs.
