About the Foundation

PWF is a land stewardship organization working with private landowners and partners to restore and sustain healthy forests, abundant wildlife habitat, and resilient watersheds across Northeast Pennsylvania. Our work is grounded in science, guided by practical experience, and focused on longterm outcomes. By coordinating habitat-focused forestry, prescribed fire, and responsible land management across privately and publicly owned lands, we help create landscapes that support wildlife, protect clean water, and remain productive for generations.

Featured Programs Strengthening Forests and Wildlife Habitat

Our programs bring private landowners together to apply science-based forestry, prescribed fire, watershed stewardship, and hands-on training. These coordinated efforts restore wildlife habitat, improve forest and water health, and build long-term land stewardship capacity across Northeast Pennsylvania.

Habitat-Focused Forest Management

Creating young forests, regenerating native plants, and  restoring structural diversity through selective cutting and regeneration planning.

Pocono Prescribed Burn Association (PPBA)

Using controlled fire to reset forest succession, improve habitat, and reduce invasive species under trained and insured leadership.

Stream & Watershed Stewardship

Clean water begins on the land. By protecting and restoring streams, wetlands, and headwater systems across Northeast Pennsylvania.

Why Northeast Pennsylvania

Much of Northeast Pennsylvania is defined by large, contiguous forests, cold water streams, and privately owned land. Over time, many of these forests have matured into uniform, closed-canopy systems that limit sunlight, reduce plant diversity, and diminish wildlife habitat. At the same time, these same forests form the headwaters of important watershedssupplying drinking water, supporting trout fisheries, and shaping downstream ecosystems. The Foundation exists to address these interconnected challenges at the scale required to make a meaningful difference.

Collaborative Habitat Management

The Challenge

Much of Northeast Pennsylvania’s forest has matured into a uniform landscape with limited sunlight, reduced plant diversity, and declining wildlife habitat.

Our Solution

We coordinate private landowners to implement habitat-focused forestry, invasive species control and watershed management at a meaningful landscape scale.

Why It Works

Pooling acreage creates long-term certainty for land management, forestry operations, and ecological outcomes that individual properties cannot achieve alone.

Trusted Partners Supporting Our Work

We collaborate with conservation organizations, forestry professionals, and local partners who share our commitment to science-based land stewardship, responsible forest management, and long-term wildlife habitat improvement across Northeast Pennsylvania.
